Something could go very wrong here,
but the old Citroen is nice. (Please let that be a Citroen.)
C'est bien une Citroën, Jerry. Le modèle DS. Une voiture à suspension hydrolique (très confortable) ******************** It's a Citroen, Jerry. The DS model. A car with hydraulic suspension (very comfortable)
My understanding is that when you pronounce the model name as dee-ess it sounds a little like 'déesse' which is French for goddess. Hence, these lovely cars are nicknamed goddesses.
Albert beat me to it, but yes, it's a Citroën DS. So that you don't have a sleepless night, I'll add that because of its suspension, the Paris SAMU (Service ambulatoire d'urgences) used them with remodelled rears as ambulances. Perhaps that was why our model was being so daring. Oh, yes, and the French Corps Diplomatique used to have them as fleet cars in Britain - because their derrières were so delicate!
The more I think about this photo, the more I think this was taken at a circus facility/camp. Back when there were large traveling circuses in the U.S., they all had large based headquarters, off season for training, usually in Florida. This looks like a small European off season place. As a side note, because Citroen's air suspension was such a success, GM tried it on their Cadillacs for a short time in the late 50's. They were so undependable, all of them were retrofitted with the regular equipment. Too bad Citroen didn't have any dealerships in the U.S., I hhaveno doubt the DS would have been popular.

Thank you, Albert, for saving my honor with the car lovers.

DeleteThey do look feminine.

ReplyDeleteYour historical notes are always so interesting. Thanks!
DeleteI wish this commenting format had a "Like" feature because I too always find your contributions so interesting and informative.
DeleteI don't think Google ever had a like button on the comments, and they even took away the one that was on the original post.
DeleteOne's "bits" rarely look good when doing this..
ReplyDeleteTrue, lol!

ReplyDeleteI checked my source on this one, and it appears to have come from a nudist magazine.
DeleteI FINALLY got my new tablet going. Jerry, even if this male is in ... suspended animation, my favourite shadow is in the picture! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI wondered what was going on. This one was a natural for you to comment on, given that shadow, lol. Glad your tablet is working now.
