Larry

You are to be forgiven if you mistook this Douglas of Detroit photo of Larry Steiner and his curly blond locks for Fred Kovert's work.  The style is similar, what with the silent movie posture and pale complexion, and Doug Juleff's career took off about the same time Kovert killed himself.

  1. Yes, this could easily be mistaken for a Kovert photo. Larry Steiner has an almost classical beauty, although without wishing to be crude, his impressive low hangers would probably count against him in that respect.

    1. Not crude at all to comment on an interesting feature that would indeed have disqualified this from being a true classical sculpture. I should have labeled the low hangers and may go back and do it yet.

    2. He sure has been oiled well. The pose is nice even if his low hangers disqualify his being a "classical" work. His penis would, too, for that matter.

    3. @B.D.: LOL, yes all the equipment is too much for the classics. And I have to add that this is one of those pictures I would like better were there less oil.

    1. Yes, oiling was common through the 1940s and well into the 50s. It started when competitive bodybuilders used oil to accentuate their muscles on stage.

  4. Image incroyable, comme un ange du ciel. L'eclairage lui donne une leuer celeste. Monsieur Juleff a fait ressortir la beaute de Monsieur Steiner.
