Drew Burton by Bruce Day

For some reason, I've wanted to call this guy "Drew Pearson" for years.  I've even had to be corrected here on the blog, but I think I've finally got it right this time around.  It's Drew Burton, and all of today's pictures are by Bruce of LA.  We start indoors on a square pedestal.

  1. I know it is extremely difficult to date early full frontal images - other than early century sportsmen and swimmers - as many of them were taken before legalization for later circulation. Whenever it was that Mr Burton posed, we are left in no doubt that Bruce Bellas did not just take a male nude study of the highest standard but without doubt intended to include a homoerotic element. The above image is absolutely redolent of his artistry in that the viewer is in fact seeing two images at the same time, appreciating the photograph on two distinct and discrete levels.

    1. I have nothing to document this other than a hunch, but I think Bruce Bellas photographed Drew Burton just after legalization. My only reason is that there don't seem to be any posing strap photos of him.

  2. Well, after looking at the architectual elements and outdoor furnishings of the property used in the photoshoot and Mr Burtons hair-style, it looks like the timeline would be 1970-1974. I have a book called Bruce Bellas Inside/Outside by Antinous Press which is about Bruce's color photos taken from the 50's to mid 60s .At the back is model info taken from Bruce's notes -
DOB, home-town,HGT, WGT, schooling, sports. Sadly Drew is not listed
Perhaps one of Bruces flyers or a catalog sheet would have the approximate date of Drew's photoshoot.

    1. I have some of Bruce's promotional pieces, both in digital and paper format. I'll have to check and see if Drew is mentioned.

  3. Drew is certainly rocking that cube. Echoing its rectilinear form in his pose of angles.
