Three Days of Art, Part 2 - Paul Cadmus

Paul Cadmus (1904-1999) has been featured here before, and you can get some biographical info by clicking his label on the right side of this page.  Today I'm posting five of his art pieces in chronological order so that you can see the evolution of his style.  This is Shore Leave from 1933, the first of a trilogy of paintings he did on that theme.  The sailor at right exudes sexuality, and if you look closely to the left of the woman in the pink dress, you will see a civilian male trying to pick up a sailor.

  1. Based on "the rape of the Sabine Women" ...well except for the book-worm getting propositioned.

    1. Only this time the women seem to be eager participants.

  2. Do the females have very masculine faces and legs? Or are my eyes tricking me?

    1. No, your eyes are fine. The females do look masculine, and the one in the pink dress looks like a burly sailor with smallish boobs.
