Frederick Winters (1873–1915) was an American weightlifter who won a silver medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St Louis. I should say very much so. Variations of these leather sandals were standard form for both open-air field sports as well as indoor disciplines. Many were made from goat skin, which is very soft but has an amazing tensile strength.
