Frederick Winters

Frederick Winters competed in the 1904 Olympics.
Did he compete in those gladiator sandals?

  1. Frederick Winters (1873–1915) was an American weightlifter who won a silver medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St Louis. I should say very much so. Variations of these leather sandals were standard form for both open-air field sports as well as indoor disciplines. Many were made from goat skin, which is very soft but has an amazing tensile strength.

    1. Gotta love those Romans. Their old stuff has become new again in multiple arenas.
