Horace the Irish Hare

Horace the Irish Hare was briefly a celebtity in 1956 when Carl Mydans got some pictures of him into LIFE magazine.  He was the personal pet of the Dublin Zoo director and enjoyed being a house pet.  He was housebroken and would scratch on the kitchen door to get in or out.

Horace would stand on his hind legs for a treat.

Once done with his tricks, he like to relax on a nice wool rug.

  1. I don't think he is a hare. He looks like a rabbit specifically a breed called Belgian Hares because they resemble a hare. In addition Hares are wild and do not do well in captivity. Rabbits are domesticated and do very well in captivity. The House Rabbit Society talks of rabbits as pets like indoor cats and dogs. Rabbits are now the 3rd most popular pet in the world after cats and dogs.
