Keith Vaughan
British artist Keith Vaughan took this photo in 1938 while
on an excursion to Pagham Beach with a group of young men.
The peacetime idyll before the war in England. When you see the photo you are left wondering if they survived the war. Vaughan was a conscientious objector and alternatively served in the ambulance corps. He was part of the neo-romantic circle post-war and later moved on to abstract art. Vaughan the best of Britain 🇬🇧
Oh, for the good old days.
ReplyDeleteI've been there, not nude, though. Very evocative. Shingle beach, so you get that extra sound as the waves break.
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget my visit to Chesil Beach in Dorset.
DeleteOh yes...
DeleteWhat's a "shingle beach"? We don't have those in California.
DeleteBeach has pebbles instead of sand, and I think there are a few in CA.

From what I've read, the tremendously talented Mr. Vaughan left a valuable chronicle of his life as a gay man before decriminalization.
