The positioning of these World War II Germans is interesting if you pay close attention to some of the details of the photo.  By the way, the Germans were far more likely to be photographed nude during wartime that just about any nationality.  I don't know if it is deeply ingrained in the culture or a result of the nature movements of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

  1. In 20th century Germany all men were uncircumcised thus they all looked similar in appearance and experience. There was no social stigma about what the next guy would think about your cock since he had what you had plus or minus a little in length.

By the 1940s the United States armed forces had about 50% cut and 50% uncut prior to the war's start. During the war period medics often would practice suture techniques on their enlisted men by offering, advising, and coercing them into being circumcised. When the men returned from the war, they were often more amenable to having their baby boomer sons clipped at birth because they knew the pain they had endured themselves and thought they might as well get it over with early in life. The practice remained and became a societal norm in the United States. The hospitals saw routine infant circumcision as a means to generate easy and swift profit and they sold it to the public as a healthy choice for the baby. Soap and water had worked fine for grandpa but their child wouldn't even have to wash...

People can be fooled, especially if they are in groups and afraid of being an outsider. That's why you see more nude German soldiers than soldiers of other countries: they had nothing to hide and no shame in sharing nudity in public since they all had their original equipment.

  2. Not all soldiers in the 1st World War German Army could have had foreskins, as some were Jewish. Later, during Hitler's reign, some decorated German Jewish veterans were allowed to ride in passenger coaches instead of cattle cars when they were sent to be killed.
