Between his own efforts to protect his models from the Detroit Police and their destruction of his records, Doug Juleff, aka Douglas of Detroit, has a higher proportion of unknown models than most classic era physique photographers. Today I'm posting ten of these men, starting with a guy whose hair style reminds me of Kramer from Seinfeld.
It's a shame he and the men were harassed and arrested and whatever. I admire his courage, their courage. His skill and their beauty are a legacy we can all enjoy, and admire.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. His models were unique in being persecuted just for being photographed nude and need to be remembered.
DeleteMy software suggested John Murphy for this fellow. I'm inclined to agree.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's not Kramer? Just kidding. Thanks, Brian!
DeleteHair like kramer and maybe “lots of wavy hair like Liberace”🎶. Wonderful model and photo. I’ve read up some of the photographer and what happened to him and his models. Really is a shame what they were put through.
ReplyDeleteYes, a shame, but at least Doug Juleff had a one man retrospective show of his work at a prominent gallery before he passed away. We can at least be thankful that he knew he was appreciated because by all reports he was overwhelmed by the praise and respect he received.
DeleteReally nice to know that show happened. Thanks!
DeleteYour'e welcome.
DeleteMr Sandman send me a dream !
DeleteOr in this case Mr Juleff :)
Absolutely gorgeous. I have said it before the guys who came before us did a lot for us. Lest we forget them I think is more then appropriate.
ReplyDeleteYes, quite appropriate!
DeleteThe fur on his thighs is driving me crazy. This is superb series, Jerry. Douglas had an eye for everything: eyes, faces, smiles, hair, physiques, personalities, and members. You did a great job highlighting that here.
ReplyDeleteIt was my pleasure!
DeleteA magnificent model. It has everything to please me!
ReplyDeleteThis one is indeed special.
