A favorite
Despite the lack of a "money shot," this is one of my farovite Kenn Duncan photos.
I love the visible body hair and the way it combines masculinity with gracefulness.
He's stark naked but there's nothing stark about the image. It's all subtle gradations, from the dark shadowed left foot through the blurred tanlines blending the boundaries of leg and bottom and torso to the light background that gently softens the lovely profile of the face. Pensive as a faun at water. He, too, could be a dancer; calm as he is, I could see him springing from those toes and fingertips up like a Nureyev or Nijinsky. Great image all around. Thanks!
I purchased a set of two boxed large format books of Duncan's photography in the early 70s when I had a subscription to "After Dark" magazine. They are titled "Nudes" and "More Nudes," featuring models, dancers, Broadway actors and some screen actors. Your particular photo is in the first book, but unfortunately none of the people are named.
Life Model, is that an exceptionally difficult pose to maintain?

ReplyDeleteYou're quite welcome! And thank you for an enlightening comment.
DeleteA fantastic photo!!!! If the model's angle had been a little less turned, the photo would have been ruined! EXTRAORDINARY!
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteOne of my favourite photos, beautifully realized on all counts.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the book references.
