Sheldon "Bugs" Deal I
I'm still hoping someone out there knows how Sheldon "Bugs" Deal got his nickname. When I asked a few years ago, no one knew. He will appear again later today in a different pose.
The gangster Bugsy Siegel got his nickname as he was said to be very short tempered and would become totally unglued. Deal was in the marine corps stationed in Virginia at time he posed for Collier. No doubt other marines had a field day making fun of his first name Sheldon, and it may have bugged the hell out of him to the point he became known as Bugs….:)
Deal was recruited by Collier out of Norfolk VA to pose. Norfolk and Virginia Beach is where Collier would recruit marines and sailors, along with beach boys and bodybuilders to pose for his camera. Physique photographers have to go where the men are. Like that song by Connie Francis Where the Boys Are. For Collier it was Where the Men Are, my model waits for me ! :) Rex in DC
A long shot but maybe those thunder-thighs?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe he liked carrots?

ReplyDeleteMarines are inventive with nicknames.
DeleteI have another photo from the same session. A great body that deserved better than this awful backdrop!
ReplyDeleteThat backdrop is an atrocity.
DeleteThe lighting here is unique, isn't it? But then, so is the male.
