I'm not aware of any titles being withdrawn due to nude posing. I'm also not aware of any "understanding," but such matters could easly be unspoken and unrecorded.
Bob Hoffmann who headed the AAU and controlled bodybuilding, was upset by the physique magazines that he felt catered to homosexuals and denigrated the sport. His belief was bodybuilding should center around strength and not physical beauty, as he felt that goal was effeminate. Hoffman considered banning bodybuilders who posed nude, but was advised many champions would then have to be banned, harming the sport. While Hoffman continued to extoll weightlifting and strength in bodybuilding, the Wieder brothers extolled the posing and physical beauty of bodybuilding, eventually eclipsing the AAU with their IFBB and ending the long reign of Hoffman and the AAU….:)
It always amazes me that title winners would strip for the camera. Did any of them ever lose their title for posing naked?
