Clarence Ross by Russ Warner
Russ Warner photographed the great bodybuilder Clarence Ross, aka Clancy Ross,
on multiple occasions, including the shot of the two of them above. Below we see some
of Mr. Warner's fine work on the cover of Your Physique magazine.
Two legends when Oakland was the center of bodybuilding in California. Warner, king of the physique contest photographers and Ross the champion. Ross trained at the famed Ed Yarick’s gym of Oakland where title winners were forged like Steve Reeves, Jack Delinger, Jimmie Payne, Norman Marks and others. Oakland’s Merritt Lake and the Muscle Beach of the north , Alameda’s Jackson Park were places bodybuilders would meet, work out and show off their muscles for the public. Warner recruited bodybuilders from Yarick’s gym and the two parks. Ross and his brother and two sisters were abandoned by their parents and lived in orphanages and foster homes. Ross went on to win the titles Mr America 1945 and Mr USA 1948. Later he owned two successful gyms, out of adversity came reward….:)
Impressive! Even better if Mr. Warner were naked, too.
