Shower

Modern communal showers were introduced in 1872 by French physician François Merry,
but they didn't become common until World War I.  The concept really took off
when the YMCAs made them a routine part of physical culture.

  1. Wonderful. The best way for men to wash. I grew up with these. Have a chat. Laugh, Sing, muck about. Wet towel flicking..and quite a bit of comparing.

    1. We still have a few in older swimming pools.

    2. FWIW, it seems that among Gen Zers, close male friends sharing a shower even at home is not uncommon; Dear Abby had a column about it a few years back.

    3. Normally, having a pond on a farm is bad, since it's unusable land. But when I was a boy, I just loved having a place to go swimming. Naked. My dad had.a storage shed there, which he'd converted to a place to store our clothes while we were swimming. In my teen years, my friends and I used it as a place to masturbate.

    4. Paradoxically, the pond on the ranch where I grew up became the most valuable plot of land on the place when my grandfather built it as part of the deep well irrigation system. It was the only reason we could grow anything most years.

  2. Des douches collectives conçues à une époque où l’on se lavait rarement et où l’hygiène personnelle était négligée.
Par conséquent, la santé s’est améliorée et l’espérance de vie a augmenté.
