About Physique Week

Physique Week

A few years ago, I cut back on the amount of physique photography I was posting.  This was mainly because I was sometimes using material from the avalanche of frontal nudes that hit after liberalization in the late 1960s as filler when I couldn't come up with something more interesting to post.  (Some people don't even consider those images as physique photography, even though a lot of them were done by famous physique photographers.)  Recently there has been a general decrease in blog posts of classic era physique images.  James IV at Men From Back then hasn't posted regularly in months.  Bob's Naked Guys does not post daily, and when he does, it is often non-physique.  Cambria and other viewers have actually sent me messages lamenting this.

I have recently increased postings of material from what I consider the classic era, 1935-1965, and moving forward, I will try to get them on at least twice a week.  Today I am kicking off a full week of physique photography with a focus on the models and types as opposed to particular photographers.  Whenever possible, I will be posting photos that I have not used before.  So please sit back and enjoy Physique Week.

  1. Do you have any idea why this change seems to be happening? I'm all for the trend you are setting here. Here on the Mainland we are being subjected to many changes established by the present administration. Some of us find it quite unsettling.

    1. The drop in physique blogging actually began before the recent political horrors, and hard core porn seens to be chugging right along. I have personally felt no pressure or faced any censorship since the tumblr fiasco. Having said all that, I can't definitively say that there is no danger. I do feel fortunate to live in Hawaii. Sometimes extreme isolation has its advantages.

    2. Some sites Google scrubs because they are not active others are removed for content violations which Google never explains. Even worse Google has its in-house purging of blogs done by vendors overseas easily offended by any content.

    3. I have had no censorship issues with Google, but I don't post action porn or anyone who looks remotely under age. Google has flagged a few of my posts as "sensitive, for adults," and that is really odd since I flagged the entire site as such myself at the outset. Tumblr, on the other hand, was a nightmare at the end.

  2. Vintage physique models from the "Physical Culture" era (starting around the turn of the 20th century) up thru about the 1960s are my strongest favorites. So I am looking forward with great anticipation to your posts this week.

    1. I love the turn of the last century period. My only regret is that many of the famous strong men never posed frontally nude. Fortunately, quite a few attractive models did.

  3. Re the decrease in vintage postings, I'm hoping it is just concidence and not part of some kind of upcomng crackdown by extremist religionists. I'm hoping we are not returning to Victorian mores of extreme modesty where people became so naive that they woud blush at an improper fraction.

    1. With Speaker Johnson at the helm and the administration kissing up to religious fanatics it’s only a matter of time.

  4. We have our own elections coming up and are hoping the Liberals (our Dems) come out on top. How anyone could see how the other side is good for a country is far beyond me.

    4. There seems to be a spring of freedom growing in Belarus, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey as Zelenskyy and Ukraine fight and fend off Putin and Russia.
The Germans have routed the AfD, the French routed LePen and the Canadians seem on their way to routing Poilievre, as Greenland of all countries, openly defies Trump and his crackpot administration.
Hopefully the reactionary right will self destruct, you think they would have learned from the self destructive Hitler, the madman they admire and make excuses for.

  5. Is there any possibility of the USA becoming a province?

    1. For decent, caring and sane people only. I have a friend who has moved here since November and another is headed for the UK. He likened it to a modern Watership Down.

    2. We need to stay here, endure, and resist, militantly if necessary. If the decent, forward thinking people all leave or give up, there is no hope for our country.

    3. That is the only hope for any of us. Our upcoming vote depends on it. Thanks Jerry for allowing us to vent our frustrations. Now, back to the blog which has become a little bit of heaven for all of us!

  6. Anticipating your next series of Physique Week. Certainly 1935-1965 was the Golden Age of physique photography, from the early days of Townsend and Forbes to the prolific Mizer to the artistry of Juleff, Oettinger and Whitman among others.

    1. All of those great photographers' work will appear, but the focus for the most part will be on the models.
