Theseus and Prokrustes

This Greek vase from 470 B.C. shows Theseus killing Prokrustes with an axe.  Prokrustes was the son of Poseidon who became a rogue blacksmith and bandit in Attica.  His favorite trick was to either stretch people or cut off their legs so they would fit into an iron bed he made in his blacksmith shop.  Hence he wasn't too popular and fair game for Theseus to kill.  Having said all that, all I can say is "what a waste" if the bad guy actually looked like the man on the vase.
