Sgt. Callary
Closing the Joe Lee series with what I think he did best, a portrait of a soldier. The subject is
Sergeant J. Callary from 1915. I hope this beautiful man survived that horror of a war.
Interesting series: I noticed that all the nude drawings were heavy in the hip and thigh area. It must have been a focus for him for some reason. Perhaps a reflection of his own build?

ReplyDeleteYou make a good point. I noticed that, too.
DeleteGreat series, Jerry. He did not flinch in depicting stripped males, did he? His artworks are finely detailed, imo.
ReplyDeleteYes, the detail in his work is quite good. Glad you enjoyed the set.
DeleteWhat a handsome sergeant. I appreciate his work; I do wonder how he managed to get some of these guys out of their attire!
ReplyDeleteThe nudes were probably done in art class with paid models.
DeleteA new artist for me and an excellent one. The attention to detail is something I enjoy perusing over. I've enjoyed this!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the series.
