Harry Heflin
The mermaid canvas in an interesting prop in this Kris photo of Harry Heflin.
I agree with CB, I love this one. There is a very strange Dennis Hopper film Night Tide that this reminded me of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Tide
Interesting movie. I've started watcing it, and so far I have two obeservations. Dennis Hopper looks great in his uniform, and the denizens of the Blue Grotto bar were interesting. Also, Mr. Hopper's acting skills had advanced considerably by the time he did Easy Rider.
It has been years since I last saw it, I will have to check it out again. James Caan lost out to Dennis for the part. He made up for it with Cinderella Liberty though!
It certainly wasn't one of Hollywood's most noteworthy movies. It seems like an odd combination of horror and romance that doesn't fully succeed at either. The scenes in the jazz club, however, are a priceless trip back in time.
I am thinking I might purchase the Blu-ray just to hear the audio commentary from Dennis and his thoughts on making it. Curtis Harrington went on to direct What's The Matter With Helen with Debbie Reynolds and Shelley Winters and Games with Simone Signoret, James Caan and Katherine Ross. The latter is one of my favourite films of the late '60's.
A beautiful sailor's ass with his mermaid, I love it!!
