Collège des Quatre-Nations/Collège Mazarin
Founded by Cardinal Nazarin as a collège intended for students of recently acquired territories in 1688. It was a collège of not just art, also lettres and science. Suppressed during the Révolution it later became home of the Institut de France.
It’s most famous art student was the neoclassical painter Jacques-Louis David who had a profound influence on academic salon painting.
Léon Cochereau tragically died young at age 24 while on a ship voyagé to Greece.

This is at the Louvre and it's one of my favourite paintings. I find his work exquisite.

A great favourite of mine, too. That light! Alone with his thoughts. Another evocative life studio scene.
