Intermission 1 - The Lion Rampant Flag

This is the Lion Rampant flag, which, although not officially the national flag, is quite
popular and frequently seen.  Technically it belongs to the monarch and is called
the Royal Standard of Scotland.  I took the photo below of the Royal Arms
featuring the Lion Rampant at Edinburgh Castle in 2015.

  1. The rampant lion is fitting for a proud, and at times fierce people.
The people of Scotland served the UK well in Ww1 and Ww2.
In Ww2 Edinburgh Castle served as a hospital, military prison and center of plans to retake Norway.
The castle plays host to the great
    Royal Military Tattoo.

    1. Edinburgh Castle is indeed historically and culturally important. For a more relaxed, less crowded, and finely curated Scottish castle experience, however, I find Stirling to fit the bill to perfection.

  2. Had an aunt in law born in Scotland.
She told us about the time she and her siblings had to be evacuated to the Scottish countryside during Ww2.
Her family lived in Glasgow between the shipyards and a rail marshalling yard, a prime target for bombings.
In the countryside they subsisted on potatoes, root vegetables, jellied eels, herrings and rationed milk and tea.
Her father worked in a rope factory, while her grandfather and uncles worked in the shipyards of John Brown where they built the liner Queen Elizabeth and numerous warships under adverse conditions. As she said herself we Scots are a tough lot….:)
