Marc Arno was featured in half a dozen photos in Mountain Men, and justifiably so.
I'm including this one to show Don Whitman's use of color. The cloudy sky actually adds
drama, as does Marc's body with the dark pine for a background.
Well, there were outdoor photographers who used artificial light and devices to focus natural light, so it could be so. Don Whitman was quite accomplished, so he would have known about such things.
A mountain of a man. I'm thinking there was some fill-in lighting to achieve this effect? The light oiling gives Marc a wonderful glow.

DeleteI like the color contrasts...the man's glowing body contrasting with the dark of the tree, against the neutral sky.
