1940s Physique Day

The socalled golden age of physique photography got under way in the 1940s,
and today I'm posting 10 examples, starting with an unknown by Arax of Paris.

  1. Beautiful lighting, male and pose. Lots of oil, but it works for me.

    1. Abit too heavy for me, but the photos is still good.

  2. Shoulders seem almost out of proportion.

    1. Maybe it's the pose or camera angle. I have another photo of this guy where the shoulders are somewhat different.

  3. He looks like a bronze statue between the oil sheen and the lighting. Hopefully more of this photographer's work will surface-Dee Exx

  4. Or maybe a plastic statue. Less is more...

  5. Comme un Apollon.
Arax was formal in his studio physique work, the physique modèles went to Arax, for they knew he would portray them well. The modèle is unkown to me, either à French or Belgian bodybuilder.

    1. I'm not aware that I have any outdoor photos in my collection by this photographer, but perhaps I should look for some.
