Barton "Bunny" Mumaw

Barton "Bunny" Mumaw was probably a contact from Earle Forbes'
early career as a dancer and photographer of dancers.

Mumaw performed with a theater company on tour in South Africa in 1950. He danced and played the role of a Native American, his very revealing costume caused a scandal in Johannesburg.

  2. Barton Mumaw was a student of Ted Shawn and his school at Jacob’s Pillow in Massachusetts. Mumaw became a part of the Men Dancers of Ted Shawn, and one time Shawn’s lover.
During the WW2 Mumaw was in the Army and he and Shawn exchanged love letters. After the war Mumaw saw a friend from the Army who brought up the love letters in a sneering way, as Mumaw would later say the friend was no longer a friend. Mumaw went on to a successful career in dance and dance education.
