James Grabitz
This is James Grabitz and his wavy hair, late 1930s. A different
view of this fine specimen is shown on the magazie cover below.
Gabritz was a popular artist and physique model on the east coast, he posed for many art schools. And to think this image and others were all done with a simple box camera used by Forbes, talk about photographic talent ! Rex in DC
Again, the full beauty of maleness is captured. The man is not oiled. Was that because it's an outdoor shot?
ReplyDeleteI've seen outdoor shots where the models are oiled, but I expect the logistics of doing it would be a bit more difficult than indoors.
DeleteA muscular man without oil is much more beautiful and natural than all those sardines out of their cans of olive oil!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting metaphor.
DeleteOh, two superb poses. Imagining young men buying that magazine in 1936.
ReplyDeleteThey were quite popular.

True about the simple box camera, althougth I have read that Mr. Forbes used something a bit more advanced on a few occasions late in his career.
