Somebody may have been thinking of the Sistine Chapel when they made this.
Ignoring the rather messy background, which, as usual, is providing the model much-needed support, this is a rather nicely balanced and accomplished pose. Even that fold in his abdomen is reminiscent of Michaelangelo's works.

DeleteYes, that could be interpreted as the pose… I was also thinking of the tomb of Pope Julius II, with the statues flanking his sarcophagus?
