Savoy 1951

This was taken at the Savoy Baths in London in 1951.
The place started attracting gays in the 1930s,
but it was still a mixed crowd much of the time.

  1. A center for the discreet homosexual the Savoy Turkish baths were a feature in London until it closed in 1975. Northern England was more open with its working men who were more open minded than you would believe. Going to the baths for encounters with other men were almost a ritual.
The public baths in Leeds were notorious and situated behind a police station ! For Your Convenience was the first London gay guide published in 1937, it primarily focused on public toilets where sex could had from rough trade to the sophisticated set.
The best of London town 🇬🇧

    1. Working class men long had a "sex is sex" approach, and they weren't always rough trade.
