Block and staff
I think the wood block on the floor and the staff are useful for steadying the model and reducing fatigue. The staff, of course, has long been a popular prop in art and photography.
Due to the angle of the model's right leg, I think that wood block may also be fastened to the dias. Not easy, great poise, with weight and centre of gravity on the left leg. Staff just for balance. Love the way you can see his fine tache.

ReplyDeleteThe mustache is a great detail, and I've often wondered if those wood blocks were attached to the floor.
DeleteThere are also a chalk marks for his feet.
