Germany tried to get in on the colonialism trend in the late 19th Century, and one place they ventured was a "concession" in coastal China. That basically meant that they strongarmed their way in at gunpoint and forced the Chinese government to concede control of Tianjin to them. The photo above is from a group showing ethnic men from various German colonies.
In Tianjin hatten Deutschland, Großbrittanien, Frankreich, Russland und Japan Konzessionen und Österreich-Ungarn, Italien und Belgien hatten aktive Gemeiden, da den Handel mit China immer wichtiger wurde.
ReplyDeleteQingdao/Tsingtao iste eine weitere Hafenstadt, die von 1897 bis 1914 von Deutschland gepachtet und kontrolliert wurde. Die berühmte Tsingtao-Brauerei wurde 1903 von Deutschen gegründet.
