Although strictly neutral until very recently, the Swedes (much like the Swiss) have always maintained a competent military. Conscription has been part of the formula for much of Sweden's history, and the photo above is said to be a medical exam from a class of 1940s conscripts.
The officer seems a bit stodgy. If he were more of a bear........
