Bob Harvest

Bob Harvest, aka Robert Hernandez, worked in France during the 1960s photographing bodybuilders and nudists.  (As you will see, there was some crossover between those groups.)  He used some of the same models as the better known Jean Ferrero, and my collection of his work is very limited.  I would appreciate it if anyone with additional photos by Harvest would pass them along.  As always, you will be credited if I post them.  We start with two similar poses by Charles Treard.

 

Black and White

This is the first of two mixed gender nudist photos in today's series provided by Larry K. 

Bob Harvest also did some solo shots of women to diversify his portfolio.

 

Claude

I posted this photo of Claude Pedro Saba a year and a half ago as unknown, and Brian E. helpfully identified him.  Later, I learned the picture was by Harvest, so here he is again.  That beautiful smile alone is worth another look, but the body adds even more interest.

 

Michel

Michel Belloucy did a lot of modeling work for Bob Harvest, and this 

color shot provided by Bryan B. is a personal favorite.  Thanks, Bryan!

 

Pierre

Pierre Bacquet appears here in a posing strap.  It was legal to photograph full frontal nudity 

in France at the time this was made, but perhaps Mr. Harvest had hope of getting some 

of his work in mainstream publications that did not want to to that far.

 

Mixed singles

Bob Harvest not only included women in some of his nudist work, but he also used men who didn't appear to be competitive bodybuilders as was his usual practice.  This guy is handsome and in good shape, but he doesn't fit the usual physical culture stereotype of the time.

Muybridge Sports

Eadweard Muybridge's pioneering 1880s photo motion studies displayed a wide range of human activities.  Today we'll look at some of his sports images, starting with a shot putter.

 

Batter up!

This Muybridge baseball batter has a very well formed derriere.

 

Dumbbells

I recently came across these additional photos of my favorite Muybridge model working 

out with dumbbells.  He appeared in literally dozens of Muybridge's sets that included an 

amazing range of activities.  Click on the Muybridge label to see lots more of this guy.

 

Pole vault

The technical clarity of this picture is pretty good for 1884 stop motion.

 

Tennis, anyone?

Muybridge often photographed his subjects simultaneously from different angles.

This shot shows the same tennis serve from two aspects.

 

Boxing

These two boxers are going at it bare knuckled. 

 

Leapin' Lizzards!

This photo comes from a miscellaneous plate showing a variety

 of gymnastic moves such as somersaults, backflips, and tumbling.

Bob Mizer's Roof

When I first saw this guy posed in that interesting corner 

of the AMG roof, all I could say was, "Oh, my!"

punchbowl set.  He's got a great tan and just a peekaboo of crotch fur for my friend Tim.

This what we used to call a ditchdigger tan.

OK, so the tan lines aren't too distinct on this one, but you 

gotta love the way he's build and the way he fills that pouch.

 

Blonde in NYC

This blonde appears to be sunbathing on a New York City rooftop.

I hope he cleaned off that brick rail before he sat on it.
