19th Century, Part 1 - Mixed Lot

Part one of today's 19th Century series is a mixed bag of mostly semi-nudes.
Hermann Heid took this photo of a guy in striped shorts, something I swoon over.

    1. Once again, I'm left wondering if these men had any inkling that we would be marveling over them 140 years later. I think it's a form of immortality, even if they are mostly anonymous.

    2. I assume, with fairly restricted distribution at the time, that he would think this would only be seen by artists? I think I said about how a Muybridge model, (I forget which) celebrating a university anniversary, was, as an old man happy to be associated with his modelling career. Yes, it is a form of immortality.

    3. The sheer joy of that Muybridge model remains with me always. Superficially, we might think of the simple satisfaction of athleticism, but I can't help but believe he knew he was part of something special . . . and immortal.

  2. This caught my attention immediately. The gentleman is exceptional, but it is the striped suit that makes it. I guess I am not the only one that thinks stripes on a man are sexy! Has anyone looked in that as to why? Lol.

    1. I don't think it has been researched, but I'm a big fan of striped shorts myself.
