You're probably wondering what these lovely flowers are doing here, but they do have a place in Bernard Perlin's story. In the late 1990s, when he was well into his eighties, he announced his retirement from painting, saying he was taking up flower gardening. Around 2005 he started painting his flowers, and this is an example that was given to a friend. As you will see in the next and final post of today's series, by the 2010s, he was back to painting male nudes.
It seems many artists are multi-talented and do many things, in particular gardening. More than likely from the palette of colors they see in flower gardens.
ReplyDeleteThe pansy like flowers in this painting brings to mind the pansy craze of the 1920’s….:)
LOL! Freddie Kovert comes to mind.
