The drawing above is Stephen Gjertson from 1974. The one below is by James Childs, and it looks like a very close copy. It turns out that the two knew each other for decades and collaborated from time to time. These look like academic works, so maybe they were in class together.
I think both are rather excellent. And the subject is very handsome.

DeleteThe drawing by Gjertson has a softer effect, where as the drawing by Childs appears more realistic.

DeleteCertainly very similar. Also, an interesting pose. That right arm looks awkward, but having tried it, most of his weight is on his left buttock, perching on the stand, with the arms providing a sort of triangular balance. Neat...
