Models in the Studio Day

Today's theme is models in the studio, and we start with a pair, one of whom is holding a palette.
If they look familiar, it's because I've posted two other similar photos of them in the past.

Ride 'em Cowboy!

No, this is not a prototype for one of those silly barroom bronco riding machines.  It's actually a French sculptor's mockup for an equestrian statue.  The model is wearing an interesting strap of some sort.  Perhaps Calorman will kindly enlighten us with his garment expertise.

George Leigh Mallory - "Because it's there."

Duncan Grant took this photo of George Leigh Mallory  (1886-1924) in Grant's studio in 1912.  A teacher and mountain climber, Mallory made several attempts on Mt. Everest, the last of which in 1924 killed him.  His body wasn't recovered and positively identified until 1999.  When asked after a 1922 attempt at Everest why he did it, he famously replied, "Because it's there."

Amsterdam, 1962

This was made in an unidentified Amsterdam studio in 1962.
The model's sandals are in the left foreground.

Misdirection

This appears to be on the diving platform at some ornate indoor swimming venue.  It puzzles me that the cameras are pointed away from the model, but then again, the camera that took the photo was pointed at the whole group.  The model looks bored and detached to me.

Roles

I think everyone in this picture has a role.  The two guys in the back are workmen doing
some sort of finishing.  The guy staring at the model's ass is probably the supervising artist.
I can't decide if the guy at lower left is the fluffer or the model's boyfriend.  I suppose he
could be both, though.  And the model is giving us a knowing look.

Interesting group

Although the model is certainly nice here,
my interest is drawn to the three men at right.

Picasso and O'Reilly

Before you jump to conclusions, let's be clear.  This photo montage was made over 10 years after Picasso died.  John O'Reilly (the"model" here) is known for his collages and photomontages which have been described as "mysterious, erudite, and confounding."  In this one he includes an image of himself nude, something he has done on other occasions.  He is apparently still living and occasionally working at age 93.  I may give him his own series, but get ready.  It's wierd.

Lalaing

Here's a picture of Jacques Lalaing's favorite model that I managed not to post until now.

Franz von Stuck

And finally, as promised, we have a phot of the models for Franz von Stuck's
"The Struggle for Woman."  We can't see much, but there they are.

Camping Day

Today we will look at a variety of nude campers, starting
with this lineup of military men on a bench outside their tent.

Stripes

This attractive nudist has a colorful striped tent to camp in.

No idea

I have no idea what sort of group this is, but the Greek key fringe around the
picture was a popular item in 1930s and 40s snapshot photo finishing.

Safari Glamping?

I think this was meant to be some sort of safari glamping experience.

CCC Trainees

The Civilian Conservation Corps was a make-work  project from the late 1930s
that used unemployed young men to do forestry, parks, and utility construction.  They
were supposed to learn useful skills, and many did, but most of them went straight
into the army in 1942.  These guys are showing off some of their favorite things.

Camper van

This guy is drinking coffee and making goo-goos
at a female while sitting in the door of his camper van.

Warm welcome

Mr. Scumbeast gave me this one from a U.S. Army base, adding,
"There's always a warm welcome in the camp . . . "

Refined gentlemen

These refined looking gentlemen have set up camp somewhere.
I wish I knew the story behind this picture.

Volleyball camp?

I have a strong feeling that these nudists camping in a rough looking
area have set up their volleball net.  Why am I not surprised?
The two players look like a train is bearing down on them.

College goofballs

Our last camping picture is a snapshot of two college age goofballs.  We've got beer, a large knife,
and an idiot pissing right in front of the sleeping tent.  What could possibly go wrong?
