Leighton drew this reclining male nude in 1848 at age 18. He studied in Italy around that time.
Superb foreshortening..great work for an 18 year old. Very clearly drawn from life. Note the position of both big toes. Most models wiggle them whilst posing as it reduces cramp in the calf muscles. Also the left biceps twitching. So slightly more pronounced than the right one. A moment in 1848 captured forever..
Thank you. Many models looking at this drawing will immediately "feel" the pose with their muscles. Working out the various tensions, how to maintain this position for for the duration.
