I've long wondered if this well kitted out archer (note the arm guard) was
a professional model or not.  Most of the male nude photographers
of that time did not take much care toward authenticity.

  1. My experience in the arts has always been: If you want to be taken seriously as a professional, you must pay attention to detail.

  2. Archery first appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900, was contested again in 1904, 1908 and 1920, then again, after an absence of 52 years, from 1972 to the present. Most of the photograph in this series seem to have been taken when it was not a competition sport. Perhaps that explains why it was for this period very much relegated to homoerotic art and the nudist camp. Unlike volley ball, it was, after all, the one sport you could indulge without your bits in the air.

    1. Like any population, there is a certain amount of diversity among nudists. I'm sure there were some who preferred not having their bits in the air while others relished it.
