Henri-Justin Cocherie
This 1866 drawing by Henri-Justin Cocherie shows a man with a crutch who may be begging.
That foot block looks to be at least 30 degrees. His crutch neatly balances him in a forward leaning pose. Which in turn adds to the emotion of a "begging" pose. His left hand is in the "balance" position. The point at which you can hold your arm out for a surprisingly long time. The biceps and triceps are in equilibria to do this. Finding that point is tricky. A lower hand would produce a more emotional pose, but be far more difficult to achieve.
