Poplar, East End
Our last bath house triple feature photos is from the "relaxation room" of the Poplar Baths in the East End of London. The place was still going strong when this photo was made in 1987.
Jerry, I guess you remember the baths on Madison (I think) right next door to Ralph & Kacoos, (a popular seafood chain). Every so often tourists would enter the lobby of the baths thinking it was the restaurant and do a quick 180 once the light dawned-Dee Exx
Reminds me of the "border" on Bourbon Street where it transitioned from straight to gay as you headed toward Esplanade. I had a buddy who worked the door at a short lived bar on Boubon called the Loading Zone. His job was to inform the straight tourists that the place was a gay bar. A surprising number asked if it was ok to go in anyway, and unless they were already fall down drunk, he'd generally say OK.
This is a unique and interesting posting. Thanks, Jerry! I went to a bath in Shepherds Bush some years back, and even though it was supposedly straight, there were a lot of naked males with hard ons in the sauna, steamrooom, and in the relaxation room. The masseur did not release my tension, but he had no qualms about handling my erection. BigDude
Another very interesting series, Jerry. Thank you. VV
