Radiator man

Anyone still have steam heat?  My elementary school had those hissing, not very effective
things.  More than one teacher wondered if the creaky boiler in the basement was
going to explode and kill us all.  Getting back on topic, it must have been
summer when this nicely built man did his wall-assisted handstand.

    1. That depended on what they burned to fire the boiler. They converted ours from coal to natural gas, which was cheaper and cleaner.

  3. Wouldn’t mind having him for a radiator repairman. Grandad’s radiator heat was generated from an oil burning boiler, later switched to natural gas in the 1960s.
He sure was glad of the switch when the oil crisis hit in the 1970s….:)

  4. Pretty sure the heat was off at time picture was taken otherwise his hands would be burned :-) BTW, there are not necessarily "steam" and can be hot water (in fact smaller installations are hot water because they don't want to handle the pressure of steam in pipes). A pump pushes the water up through the radiators and back down to furnace.
