Richard
A late 1950s car makes a nice backdrop for Richard Gere in this 1979 Herb Ritts photo.
It’s a Le Sabre, the script is on the right just above the bumper. The 1960 Buicks were popular with interstate heroin dealers back in the day. The box frame at the front wheel wells behind the kick panel in the front seat area was a great place for narcotics concealment. Just take a look at a 1960 Buick front wheel opening and you’ll see what I mean you will see where the front passenger compartment intrudes into the wheel well. Sort of like kids selling dope in highschool, hiding the stash in a brown bag taped to the inside of a hubcap or up and under the dashboard back in the 1960’s and 1970’s….:\
1960 Buick. Not sure of the model but I think it's a LeSabre. (Just in case anyone isn't looking at Richard Gere)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like it when the cars get named.

Ritts said Gere was easy to photograph unlike other celebrities. "He got it" It shows here.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised.
DeleteThis is just before Gere’s career starts to take off. American Gigolo was a year later in 1980. He was already in good company.
ReplyDelete....and he's uncut in that bulge.....
