AMG by Pairs

Bob Mizer of AMG was fond of photographing men in duos almost from the beginning of his
work as a physique photographer.  Today we will look at ten pairs of men from my AMG collection.  We start the series with Tommy Evans (left) and Jim Collette who had an unforgettable photo
session together.  This is just one of about a dozen high quality shots made that day.

  1. Does not appear that these handsome males were oiled down at all. It works okay in this shot.

    1. I haven't researched it thoroughly, but based on my observations, oiling went out of fashion in male nude photography when the model pool transitioned from bodybuilders to hustlers to any guy who'd doff his clothes. A lot of bodybuilders used oil back in the 40's and 50's, but I don't know if any still do. I can't stand to look at the modern ones. Grotesque!

  2. Jim Collette was remarkably photogenic. His physique and facial features were absolutely what was considered fashionable in male beauty for the time. I was saddened to learn that he was apparently found drowned in a swimming pool after taking drugs. I am sure he would have gone on to have a very successful career as he filled out and matured.

    1. Yes, he was a great model. His tragic death was indeed due to drowning while on drugs, but I believe Bob Mizer wrote of it happening during an adventure trip from LA to the Colorado River in Arizona with a group of model friends. "Misadventure" might have been a better term.
