Equipment check
Here we see a young man examining the disc, or whatever they call that thing.
I believe they are known as a "quoit": a ring of iron, rope, or rubber thrown in a game; the flat covering stone of a dolmen; or, in the inimitable Australian slang without which the world would be a poorer place, the buttocks - which, in this instance, is not entirely inappropriate.
Indeed... Wiltshire was another. With its bucolic little villages and slow pace of life, my father used to say that the Bronze Age was the height of its civilization and that it had been going downhill ever since.
If I recall correctly, they're "pucks."

ReplyDeleteThe Cornish call the whole dolmen a quoit, with several being roadside attractions. That place was a Neolithic den of activity.

ReplyDeleteWell, your Dad is probably right about the rural areas, but the City of Salisbury has some magnificent architecture and a pretty good art festival.
