For some reason, ruggers seem to go in for playing naked. This is not a complaint. I saw a naked rugby game in Australia. They wore different colored armbands to distinguish teams.
Rugger players are notorious exponents of the democracy of male nudity, which doesn't quite explain why they feel obliged to take their clothes off at every conceivable opportunity.
I hated rugby at school because I always had to play in the scrum and I didn’t like having my head between other boys’ thighs (!!). As I grew older, I began to appreciate rugby as a sport and for the eye candy. Lawrence Dallaglio, former captain of England, is one of my favourite men of all time.
There is also a famous photo of the South African rugby team in their changing room at the 2019 World Cup which is worth a look. There were widespread allegations that South Africa’s victory was tainted by performance-enhancing drug use. I don’t have a view on that, but the photo is definitely worth a look!
I played rugby for a while in college and can attest to the fact that most of the guys were running around nude as much as possible. The teams weren't university sanctioned, just informal clubs from different schools. The accepted after game practice was the losing team supplied the booze to the naked winners. I was convinced that certain teams were allowed to win so the rest of us could watch the good looking team nakedly pass out drunk. There were the usual"I don't remember a thing" comments the next day.

ReplyDeleteThe armbands were practical.

ReplyDeleteThey do seem to love to do it. I've got them naked in a variety of settings.

I've posted Playgirl photos of a California rugby team from the early 70's, so their willingness to pose nude goes at least that far back.
