That can't be easy
I can't quite figure out why Montfort's model here is perched on the ball of one foot.
I'm sure my life model friend from London will enlighten me on this one.
That hairstyle strongly reminds me of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861), the Prince Consort of Queen Victoria - famous not so much for having lived but died. Antoine-Alphonse Montfort was principally an "Orientalist" painter and very prolific and so I cannot find this particular painting online to date it, but from the hair, I would imagine it was committed to canvas in the 1850s.
Your dating would make this likely to be a study rather than an academic piece. (Montfort would have been in art school around 1825.) Like you, I could not find a corresponding finished painting, so maybe this was a study for a never completed or never undertaken work?
That raised left foot is odd. I just tried it, even a slight rise lifts my left buttock. Causing a tilt in my pelvis. I did this nude in the bathroom mirror, dedication for you... Almost as if the legs were drawn or were odd lengths?

ReplyDeleteTrue dedication! I hadn't thought about odd lengths, but it makes sense.
DeleteThanks. I often do a "try out", see if the pose suits me.
