These two guys are the Conklin Twins, Robbie and Richie.  Wish I knew more about them.
I don't even know which is which, but at least the tattoos are different.  That's a clue.

    1. In a way that was a "poke in the eye" to the censors.

  2. I've often wondered if Don Whitman deliberately pushed the envelope by seemingly providing smaller posing straps to his models than other photographers. I've read that Bob Mizer of AMG would occasionally edit his films and withdraw some photographs because of exposed pubic hair. But perhaps the authorities had Mizer in their sights more than Don Whitman, who used more discernibly bodybuilder models. (I've never found out anything about the Conklin Twins - not for want of trying.)

    1. What you say about Mizer being "in their sights" is quite correct. He had to be careful because of his record of arrests. Don Whitman probably got away with it because he never distributed any frontal nudes until it was legal. I'm not saying he never took any, but he was careful to avoid legal entanglements.

  3. I know that in the fashion world you get more work the smoother your body is. It's the same for men as well as women. Some of the men could get away with nnoticeably groomed chest hair, but both sexes were held to the "Brazilian" body hair standards.

  4. A good example of why posing straps are so stupid -- who were they supposed to keep out of harms way, as it were, as these attempts at hiding something to make them more appealing.

    1. I agree. Both the laws and the prudery of that era made no real sense.
