Puzzler
I've puzzled over this photo for years because I can't seem to date it, among other things.
Autocorrect doesn't do anything for the color, making me think it was hand tinted.
And then there's that foot in the lower left of the photo. Odd indeed.
OK, here's my guess. The original (before Autocorrect) is probably very blue...in which case it is an old Ektachrome (1950s). Ektachrome red dyes faded much faster than Kodachrome, which with care can keep it's colors for decades. I can't date this, but this kind of material with African-Americans is very rare indeed. Just my 2 cents...
Very interesting observations in both comments, Dee. I have been contacted by an expert who is doing some analysis on this. I'll be sure and let you know what he finds out.

ReplyDeleteOr...it might have been a Kodacolor print from the 1940s, which had severe fading as well.
