Benedito

This handsome man was painted by Manuel Benedito.
Anyone know what he's holding?

  1. A bit of El Greco here, isn't there? The bright light on his shoulders and pecs brings that out, though the "dark" isn't so dark as El Greco's.

  2. My favourite painting in this series, not least because of the very handsome model. Another excellent Friday art double. Thanks, Jerry.

    1. Yes, he's robustly good looking. Glad you enjoyed the series.

  3. The Ten Commandments? (The tradition of the tablets with rounded tops is entirely the legacy of ecclesiastical artists. In fact, the Talmud tells us that they were rectangular or, rather more oddly, cubes.) There's something a bit ecclesiastical about whatever it is he is holding. Perhaps it's the gilt.

    1. I totally get the ecclesiastical thing. If it's supposed the be the Ten Commandments, that's by far the best looking Moses I've seen.
