Thomas Wilson
This 1862 painting by Thomas Wilson is deservedly in the Scottish Royal Academy collection.
He went on to become well known for his paintings of fishermen, herring girls, and seascapes.
A lovely series, Jerry. Despite varied artistic styles, with all of these, we’ve got some feel of the actual men depicted. As well as most of the works achieving the requirements of academic rigour. They all honestly portray men stripped bare, with all our "faults", celebrating the eternal beauty of the male.
I have said before I have no artistic talent, but being able to study, admire and view is fine with me. Thanks Jerry, a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum is in order!
I like these. They're direct, unadorned, and depict the male body openly and unashamedly.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the set.

DeleteI always appreciate your personal perspective on these sets, David.
DeletePleasure, as ever, Jerry. I particularly enjoy the life class works. So much to see, and using my own experience to enhance the interpretation.

ReplyDeleteSometimes I miss my former big city life. Atlanta's High Museum was one of my favorite haunts. If you ever find yourself there, check it out.
DeleteThanks Jerry, I will!
