Integrated Unit
The Korean War was the first major U.S. military operation to be racially integrated.
Wow, you are really good at this. I love this photo, especially considering the stories I heard about the trouble Black soldiers had during both World Wars. I am picking this as my favorite only because it is the only one that does not make me want to cry. The one of the soldier comforting his grieving comrade is just too much for me.
This is indeed a special photo. After integration, one Southern soldier who served in Kora was quoted as saying, "Once the bullets began to fly, nobody cared what color the guy next to him was."
