Albert Maennchen
This chalk drawing was done by Albert Maennchen around 1900.
Red chalk was popular for drawing from the 15th to 18th centuries. Hence what we might think of as an unusual color. Michaelangelo, Da Vinci and Van Gogh used red chalk for their drawings. Artists tend to use charcoal (black) for drawings nowadays.
Interesting color cast, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteRight, some sort of faded bronze.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the information. 1900 would be late for red chalk, but that's exactly what it looks like.
